National Prevention Week

National Prevention Week is an annual health observance dedicated to increasing public awareness of, and action around, substance use disorders and mental health. Each year, NPW incorporates daily health themes to focus on.  For 2021, the daily themes are as follows:

Monday, May 10: Preventing Prescription Drug & Opioid Misuse

Tuesday, May 11: Preventing Underage Drinking & Alcohol Misuse

Wednesday, May 12: Preventing Illicit Drug Use & Youth Marijuana Misuse

Thursday, May 13: Preventing Youth Tobacco Use (E-cigarettes & Vaping) Misuse

Friday, May 14: Preventing Suicide

In observance of National Prevention Week, the Youth Advisory Committee of the Behavioral Health Alliance of Grundy County worked with WJDK/WCSJ Radio to develop radio PSAs about the importance of parents talking to teens about alcohol.  Youth related how and why to have these conversations.

Many thanks to the Criminal Justice II students, Mr. Brent Dite, and Lee Ann Oliver for their collaboration and efforts.

The project was made possible by Chestnut Health Systems and funded in whole/part by a grant from Illinois Department of Human Services, Division of Substance Use Prevention & Recovery through the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Service Administration.
